Greetings from Lapland
We had wonderful two weeks trip to Lapland, the northern part of Finland in August. Northern lights, aurora boreales are stronger here than in any other place in Finland and you can more often be “under” the auroras compared to south of Finland where you usually see auroras as low arches at the northern sky. In August there are more auroras as the autumn equinox was near. Our map was the weather report because we were hunting for clear skyes and auroras. So I was excited!
This first photo is me under the aurora corona. The corona was incredible colourful and beautiful. Actually I photographed myself by accident because I was so full of excitement and had been for many hours busy adjusting my camera all the time to get the best views of rapidly changing formations all over the sky.
So this gave me an idea to write this post about my strange photos of auroras. I will later post the beautiful ones in the shop, too, but here are the craziest ones of this trip.

This was an early evening, approximately 9 pm and the sky was still almost light blue. I had decided to take a photo of us together under a beautiful scene of auroras, but what did I get. A funny, strong coloured neon green aurora line with faint violet border. The line started behind the mountain and went over our car straight to the other side of the sky. And that was it! For a while. We could not help laughing. What is this!!! Later there were such beautiful aurora scenes that I totally forgot to take a new photo of us. So this is the only photo of the two of us under the auroras!

This photo is taken with a “fish eye” lens (Samyang 12 mm). I used this lens to get photos to show how big the best aurora coronas are. Here the aurora formation has just started and it looked like a big bird flying on the top of our car and the little boats of the harbour.

After a while it looked like the aurora bird had seen our car and approached it.

Suddenly there was a big hand trying to crab our car….

Then the hand opened and formed a beautiful butterfly!

In the harbour the auroras formed also wild and strange patterns.

I was so tired after hours of photographing that I fell a sleep in the car and sleeped for nine hours, with aurora dreams, of course!
